In fact, I’m contemplating taking the one star away but I figured I had to give elon something. As it happens, he is offered the job of baby sitting and he eagerly accepts. The three hit the tarmac of the tiny island airport, where they run into home-for-the-summer Middlebury senior Josh Flynn, who has a summer job there that he hates. This was such a hilderbranv story! It’s summer, and even lovers of YA books need a beach read sometimes! Except, curiously, Josh, who simply vanishes from the book a few scenes from the end, which I felt was an odd choice given that he plays the role of the Greek chorus in the beginning not to mention the Greek god throughout the rest of the book. Hildebrand expressed the true emotional turmoil and joy of 3 distinct women in words that were never trite or unforgiving but real.

Then, she discovers she’s pregnant but she also learns that her husband, Peter, is cheating with a woman at work. We just have to spend the summer on an island doing nothing but wallowing in our sorrow! She wanted to get away for the summer with her two little boys, her sister Brenda and her best friend Melanie. The chararacters engage you from the moment you are on the first page.
She doesn’t know how to handle it–but at least her two boys can play at the beach if she’s at the family cabin. The girls finally manage to get it all together with the help of an island native, a college student, who escapes his menial job at the airport and babysits the two children for the summer.

I look forward to the next Elin Hilderbrand novel! The Hot Flash Club. Barefoot weaves these four lives together in a story with enthralling sweep and scope–a novel that is as fun and memorable and bittersweet as elun one perfect day of summer.

I think that I would have become significantly involved as a reader if As I delved into this book, it occurred to me that our book club has enjoyed some amazing books this year, and so by comparison, this novel seems rather trite or ordinary. Can’t take another page.
